The Project Community
The upper basin of the Meduna river has a declining population, with an ever-higher average age.
No industries or artisans, with sparse productive activities. The camping -the largest mountain one in Friuli- has closed in 2019. Health and mobility services are barely guaranteed; nursery and primary school – though subject to recent energy requalification- have closed in 2019.
However, the arrival of new, young residents attracted by calmness and nature, the interest of external experts, and the success of some cultural initiatives have rekindled the interest of locals.
Residents, local administrators, entrepreneurs, second-home owners, all gathered in informal co-design workshops. With the ultimate goal to develop regenerative projects for places and communities. Working on sharing needs, experiences, and knowledge.
The group has decided to focus on the fundamental and complex theme of water, and is now exploring emerging opportunities.
Legambiente -the most important environmentalist entity in Italy- has rewarded one of the municipalities involved in the project as one of the best Italian Alpine communities. Our work has been included among the prize reasons (link in Italian)
